How to reset a Hisense Dehumidifier

Hisense is a dependable tech brand, and its dehumidifiers have a vast consumer base across the globe. They have a range of models (described in the following section) that vary in features like capacity, speed, bucket size, coverage, and noise levels.

Although they do not come with a reset button, the ‘hard reboot’ process for them is simple and generally similar for all models.

Here are the steps to resetting all models of Hisense dehumidifier:

1. Hard reset

Hisense dehumidifiers do not come with a button specific for resetting, but can easily be rebooted through a hard reset process.

First locate the power switch and turn the appliance off. Next, unplug the unit and wait for a minimum of 10 seconds and reconnect it to a stable power source.

If the dehumidifier is reconnected too soon the device may not reset.

The reboot process is complete and will clear all the control settings.

Dehumidifiers are programmed to run on specific settings. Therefore, after plugging the dehumidifier in, you will need to locate the control panel and reset all the controls.

2. Reset the Filter Monitor

This step is specific for when you are resetting the system after cleaning the filter.

Dehumidifiers come with a filter that traps contaminants from the air and thus, releases dehumidified and clean air into the room. Over time the filter naturally accumulates dirt and debris. To indicate the filter quality, as well as the time when it needs to be cleaned or replaced, Hisense dehumidifiers come with a filter monitor.

The filter monitor resets on its own when the filter is changed.

But you need to reset it manually after cleaning the filter.

  • To do so, press the ‘Clean Filter’ button down for 5 seconds.
  • By this point the indicator light will go off. Then in order to restore its normal display, press the button again after 5-10 seconds.

This is same for all models except the first one i.e the Hisense DH3020k1W in which you are supposed to press the power button for 5 seconds to reset the filter monitor.

3. Set the Relative Humidity

The relative humidity is a scale of gauging water content in the surrounding air. It is measured in %, and the lower its value, the lower the moisture content.

On Hisense dehumidifiers, the minimum and maximum limits for relative humidity are 30% and 80%, respectively. Since the ideal range for relative humidity is 30-50%, it is better to set your controls within this limit.

On the control panel, the humidity button is marked with a plus (+) and minus (-) sign.

  • Activate the setting by pressing the plus or minus button.
  • Refer to the flashing display screen for the reading.
  • Five minutes after setting the control, the screen will display the room humidity level, which the dehumidifier will adjust as per the settings.

Note that you will only be able to set a humidity level when the appliance is operating on manual mode.

4. Set the Fan Speed

Dehumidifiers employ a rotating fan to draw in hot and moist air into the system. Since the fan regulates the airflow, its speed influences the time in which the dehumidifier achieves the set humidity level.

In Hisense dehumidifiers, you can set the fan’s speed to any one of the three levels, i.e., low, auto, and high. The desired level depends on your personal preference.

  • Press the button marked fan/vent present next to the power button on the control panel, and then choose any one of the speed options.

At high fan speed, humidity levels fall drastically in comparison to when the fan is running at the auto speed. Therefore, if the humidity in the room is not too uncomfortable, it is better to operate the dehumidifier with the fan set at auto.

Once the appliance brings the humidity down to the set-point, the fan stops working until needed again.

5. Set the Operating Mode

Hisense dehumidifiers come with a mode button that lets you decide how you want to run the appliance. Following are the three operating modes on Hisense dehumidifiers:

Auto Dry

In the auto dry mode of Hisense dehumidifiers,

  • the relative humidity is automatically set to 50%
  • the fan typically rotates slowly, but the speed can be adjusted

This mode is particularly important when the moisture content in the environment is naturally high, such as in rainy weather.

Continuous

As the term suggests, Hisense dehumidifiers run continuously in this mode.

  • You cannot adjust the humidity setpoint.
  • You can switch the fan speed anytime during the operation

Since the appliance runs continuously, it removes moisture from the air for as long as it is left turned on and does not adhere to any specific humidity level

Manual

In the manual mode:

  • You select both the relative humidity as well as the fan’s speed
  • The user has all the controls in hand, and the appliance shuts down periodically to keep the humidity within the selected range

6. Timer

Running the dehumidifier continuously can cause it to overheat, and it may eventually start malfunctioning. This is where the “delay time” feature comes into play.

The timer is the first button from the right on the control panel. The feature allows you to set the operating time between 30 minutes to 24 hours, after which the dehumidifier automatically turns off. The set period is called the delay time.

Remember that when setting the timer for delay time, the dehumidifier must be on.

7. Reset the Pump

The next step is to reset the pump. To activate the system, press the ‘pump’ button located at the extreme right on the second row of the control panel.

This feature is specific to only some models of Hisense dehumidifiers, i.e., DH7019KP1WG 50/70, DH10020KP1WG 60/100, and DH10019TP1WG 60/100. The water removed from the air is collected in a bucket in the dehumidifier.

The pump function makes it easy to drain the water by pumping it out. Connect one end of the hose to the unit and hold the other out to a drainage system, and the water will be pumped out of the bucket.

Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some of the important FAQ about Hisense dehumidifiers:

How To Bypass Hisense Dehumidifier Humidity Sensor

To bypass a Hisense dehumidifier humidity sensor, disconnect it from the power source and detach the back panel. Locate the sensor and loosen its wires using a screwdriver. Attach the two ends of an 18-gauge wire to each screw terminal. Replace the back panel and plug in the dehumidifier to restart dehumidification.

Dehumidifiers have sensors that gauge the humidity levels in the environment and help maintain it. In manual mode, you set a limit for relative humidity in the room. The dehumidifier works to bring the humidity level down until it reaches the set point.

At this point the appliance temporarily turns off to keep the moisture level from decreasing further.

The sensor can start malfunctioning due to several reasons, which completely impairs the dehumidification process.

In such a scenario, you can bypass the dehumidifier humidity sensor i.e disconnect it from the sensor. The 18-gauge bypass wire completes the circuit allowing the dehumidifier to operate independent of the sensor.

Remember to check in with a technician as soon as possible though, because a bypassed appliance operates continuously and does not adhere to a set relative humidity.

How To Enter Continuous Mode On A Hisense Dehumidifier

To enter Continuous mode on a Hisense dehumidifier, locate the MODE button (triangular) next to the “TIMER” on the control panel. Press it twice to select the continuous humidity mode. You cannot adjust the humidity set-point and the dehumidifier will operate continuously. However, you can select the fan speed.

Alternatively, manual mode allows you to set both the relative humidity and fan’s speed.

If you live in a place with a moderately humid climate, it is best to operate the unit in manual mode as it keeps the room from getting excessively dry and also saves bucks on the electricity bill.

How To Set The Timer On a Hisense Dehumidifier

To set the timer on a Hisense dehumidifier, press the ‘timer’ button located on the extreme left on the second row of the control panel. Set a delay time using the plus-minus buttons (minimum being 30 minutes and maximum being 24 hours). To clear the time delay program, press ‘timer’. Once the screen displays the remaining time press ‘timer’ again and the indicator light will turn off.

Setting a Delay Time

Dehumidifiers should not be operated for more than 12 hours.

Sometimes in manual mode, when the relative humidity in the surroundings is the same or lower than the humidity setpoint, dehumidifiers do not remove moisture from the environment despite being on.

To save electricity in such scenarios, you can use the timer on the Hisense dehumidifier to ensure they turn off automatically. Here’s how you can do it:

  • Turn the appliance on by pressing the power button located in the middle of the second row of the control panel.
  • Press the “TIMER” button.
  • Now press the plus or minus button to set the delay time anywhere between 30 minutes to 24 hours.

Clearing the Time Delay Program

It is not necessary for Hisense dehumidifiers to run on a time delay program. The following points explain how you can reset the timer to clear the timer delay settings.

  • Press the “TIMER” once and wait for the display screen to show the remaining time.
  • Once the screen starts displaying the reading, press the button again.
  • The timer indicator light will turn off, and any previous time delay settings will be removed.

When clearing the time delay program, it doesn’t matter if the dehumidifier is on or off.

Changing the Delay Time To Turn The Dehumidifier On

The delay time is set for a certain amount of time, and the appliance remains turned off till the delay time ends. If you want the dehumidifier to turn on earlier, here’s how you can change the delay time:

  • Press the “TIMER” button and wait for the timer indicator light to flash.
  • Set the time using the plus/minus button.
  • The screen will display the remaining time before the appliance turns on.

Remember to drain the water from the bucket before setting the timer. You can use a hose to empty the bucket if your model features a pump system.

Conclusion

Although Hisense dehumidifiers do not come with a reset button, rebooting them is easy. All you need to do is unplug the unit from the outlet and reconnect after 10 seconds. Then follow the steps listed in the article and reset all the controls before turning the dehumidifier on.

The Hisense dehumidifiers have a filter monitor that displays the condition of the filter indicating when it needs to be cleaned or replaced. Refer to the post and ensure to reset the monitor after cleaning the filter for seamless operations.
