hOmeLabs Dehumidifiers: Cleaning, Set-up And Filter Location

The hOmeLabs dehumidifiers are one of the best for maintaining indoor humidity levels. But to dry your air efficiently it needs a clean filter (not a clogged up one that needs replacing). Unfortunately, finding the filter in a hOmeLabs dehumidifier isn’t always straightforward.

The filter in the hOmeLabs dehumidifier (22, 30, 40, 35, and 50-pints models) is located on the rear side. On the back panel there is a plastic grill with a mesh screen that houses the filter. The filter can be removed by holding the small tab at the bottom of the screen.

This guide explains where the filters and filter reset buttons are in hOmeLabs dehumidifiers, plus a step-by-step guide on how to clean your hOmeLabs dehumidifier.

All hOmeLabs dehumidifiers have filters except the small space dehumidifier (HME020018N). These filters are located in the same place on all models, except the 400sq. ft Commercial Grade Dehumidifier.

All hOmeLabs dehumidifiers (excl. commercial grade):

To find the filter on hOmeLabs dehumidifiers:

  1. Look at the rear side of the dehumidifier.
  2. Locate the grill with a little slot/tab where your fingers can easily fit.
  3. Lift the tab at the bottom of the grill and pull it out to remove the filter from the central unit. This plastic filter has a fine mesh screen.

Location of Filter on hOmeLabs 400sq. ft Commercial Grade Dehumidifier:

  1. Pull out the louver on the front panel to gain access to the filter.
  2. Take out the filter. The filter in this commercial grade dehumidifier is a separate fine plastic mesh, unlike other hOmeLabs models.

How to reset a hOmeLabs Dehumidifier

All hOmeLabs dehumidifiers need to be reset after cleaning or changing the filter, or after 250 hours of operation.

The check filter light will come on as a reminder to clean the filter, and will begin to flash after 250 hours of operation.

To reset your hOmeLabs dehumidifier after cleaning the filter, press the filter button and the light will go off.

How to Clean a hOmelabs Dehumidifier and Filter

The following cleaning guide is for all hOmeLabs dehumidifier models. If you own a small space dehumidifier skip the filter cleaning step, as it doesn’t have a filter.

Please switch off the dehumidifier and unplug it before cleaning

1. Clean the outer case and grills

  • Wipe the outer side of the unit with a damp cloth.
  • The air inlet and outlet easily get soiled and need special attention while cleaning. You can clean them using a brush or a vacuum attachment.
  • Never allow the water to splash directly onto the central unit as it may result in rusting or electric shock as you plug the device again, causing the insulation failure of the unit.

2. Clean the Bucket

  • Locate the water bucket at the lower half of the front panel. Remove it by gently pulling it out.
  • Discard the water in the bucket. It has a splash guard that ensures water does not drip as you take the water bucket out.

3. Clean the Filter

  • Remove the filter and wash it with potable water (The small space dehumidifier is filterless, so these steps are not required for cleaning it).
  • Once the filter is clean, air dry it and insert it back inside the unit. You need to clean the filter once every 30 days.
  • You need to reset the filter using the filter reset button after reinstalling the filter in the central unit. The filter light starts flashing automatically after every 250 hours of operation to remind you that it’s time to clean the filter. Remember commercial grade dehumidifiers don’t need to be reset.
  • To reset the filter, press the filter button once, and the flashing light will go off.
  • Your dehumidifier is ready for use again.

Deep Cleaning

If your dehumidifier unit needs deep cleaning, you can use mild detergents for proper cleaning. HOmeLabs strictly prohibits using bleach or any abrasives for cleaning the dehumidifiers.

For deep cleaning of the filter:

  • Take out the filter from the central unit. Run tap water gently over the filter.
  • Use a brush and a mild detergent to clean the filter. After applying detergent, rub the surface carefully with the brush to remove dust and other trapped particles inside the filter.

For deep cleaning of the water bucket:

  • Pull out the water bucket and discard water from it.
  • Clean the inner side of the bucket using lukewarm water, a mild detergent, and a soft brush.
  • After applying detergent, rub the surface gently and rinse the water bucket with clean water.
  • Repeat this every two weeks for efficient operation.

How to use a hOmeLabs dehumidifier

To use a hOmeLabs dehumidifier:

  • The hOmeLabs dehumidifier might be tilted or placed upside down during shipping. Before initial use let the device stand upright before plugging in for at least 24 hours for optimal operation.
  • Install an appropriate sized drain hose (optional).
  • Plug in the device and the LED panel will light up.
  • Press the power button and the unit will start running in the continous mode by default.
  • You can also set the timer and humidity levels using the arrows – Exit the continuous (or comfort mode) mode by pressing CONT. button as the humidity setting is invalid in this mode and the arrows are disabled.
  • Enjoy ideal, healthy humidity levels.
