Here are all the potential reasons why your Everlasting Comfort Humidifier isn’t working properly, or has stopped working altogether. Go through each one to see which solution will help you get your humidifier working again.

Here’s also a quick summary of what the lights mean when the humidifier isn’t misting, but don’t worry there are more reasons why your Everlasting Comfort might not be working.

1. Damaged floater

Everlasting Comfort humidifiers use a small floater in the base to detect when the water level is low, and to shut off.

The floater can become stuck to the bottom of the base because of mineral deposits, especially if you haven’t used the humidifier in awhile. The humidifier will sense it’s out of water and won’t turn on.

Solution:

  • Turn off and unplug the humidifier.
  • Remove the tank.
  • Add a few ounces of water and a small amount of dish soap to the base.
  • Clean with cotton swab or soft brush.
  • Empty the dirty water from the base and rinse it to remove any residual soap – be sure to not let water into the underside of the base.
  • Dry with towel.
  • Check the floater is not stuck by adding a few ounces of water to the base (the floater should float).
  • Place water tank back onto base.
  • Plug back in and turn on.

2. Blockage

Humidifiers obviously need water so that they can humidify our air.

If you use tap water (or well water) in your Everlasting Comfort humidifier, the minerals in the water can form a hard white crust inside the tank and the vaporizing system.

This clogs the water valves and outlet, stopping the humidifier from working efficiently.

Everlasting Comfort humidifiers are filterless, so any mineral deposits will build up directly in the unit and can damage the humidifier permanently.

Dust and debris can also make their way inside the with the air intake and can mix with these minerals, turning the substance a grey or black color.

This clogged crust can also breed bacteria and germs and encourage mold to grow, which can then be dispersed with the water vapor and contaminate the air of your room.

Solution:

  • Remove any debris or mineral build-up from the humidifier.
  • Use distilled water to prevent mineral deposits and maintain the air quality.
  • Clean the humidifier at least once a week if you’re using it every day.

To thoroughly clean your Everlasting Comfort humidifier, unplug it and empty the reservoir. Then separate all the parts.

  • Use a dry cloth to remove dust from the small parts. Then use a soft brush (e.g. tooth brush) to gently remove any hardened debris.
  • Prepare a vinegar solution adding two cups of white vinegar to distilled water. Rinse the tank with the vinegar solution and allow it to drain immediately. Then let it sit for 15 minutes. Use a brush to remove any dirt or mineral deposits.
  • Rinse everything thoroughly with distilled water.
  • Wait for the parts to dry and then reassemble the system.

It’s best if you can clean your Everlasting Comfort Humidifier once a week following the above steps. This will stop it from malfunctioning and prolong its life, so that you can get the most out of it.

3. Low Water

Everlasting Comfort humidifiers are ultrasonic and have two ceramic plates that vibrate at high frequencies, which turns the water in the tank into ultra-fine water droplets that it sends up into the air.

The humidifier won’t have any effect on the humidity if there isn’t enough water in the reservoir.

Solution:

  • Refill the humidifier’s reservoir tank (it should start working normally).
  • The unit needs 1 gallon (4 liters) or 1.5 gallons (6 liters) of water, depending on which Everlasting Comfort humidifier you have. This amount of water will last up to 40 or 50 hours, respectively. However, they often run out of water before this and daily refilling of the reservoir is recommended.
  • When filling the reservoir, place enough water in so that it sits just below the max line. Sometimes filling to the max line can stop it from working, and overfilling definitely does.

It’s also important to add a few ounces of water into the base of the humidifier for the system to produce mist.

Make sure your humidifier is turned OFF when refilling the tank. Otherwise this can trigger the red light to come on and no mist to come out.

Even if you don’t use the humidifier regularly, avoid leaving water in it as it can lead to bacteria and mold.

Change your water everyday.

4. Dirty atomizer

The 6L humidifier uses an atomizer to diffuse water into the air and increase the humidity. The atomizer can become dirty from particles in the water.

Solution:

  • Turn off and unplug the humidifier.
  • Remove the tank.
  • Add a few drops of water to a clean cotton swab and clean the atomizer.
  • Empty any dirty water from the base and dry the atomizer thoroughly with a soft, dry towel (not one that will scratch it). If you don’t have a soft cloth you can let it air dry.
  • Re-assemble the unit and plug in

5. Wet circuit board

The circuit board in an Everlasting Comfort humidifier can become moist or damp from:

  1. Operating in a high humidity environment
  2. Operating on a wet surface
  3. Water entering into the circuit board during cleaning

The air intake for the humidifier is on the bottom (underside), water can easily enter in and damage the circuit board during cleaning.

Solution:

  • Turn off and unplug.
  • Remove all water.
  • Dry unit with a towel.
  • Allow the disassembled parts to let air dry for 24 hours.

6. Turned on too quickly

Turning on your Everlasting Comfort humidifier immediately after placing the tank back on will stop the humidifier from turning on, and the red light indicator will come on. You should always wait a few seconds after putting the tank on, to switch the humidifier on.

Solution:

  • Remove tank
  • Re-install tank
  • Wait a 10 seconds and then switch the unit on

7. Left on when refilling

If you don’t completely turn off your humidifier when you refill the tank it won’t recognise that the tank is full or that it should start misting again.

Solution:

  • Turn the knob to the off position
  • Wait 10 seconds
  • Turn the knob to the on position
  • Your humidifier should then start working again.

8. Incorrect Wiring

If your Everlasting Comfort humidifier is new and not working, incorrect wiring is probably the problem.

The system has a transformer that provides a low-voltage signal to the humidistat. When the humidity goes below the desired level, the switch closes, completing the circuit. This turns on the humidifier.

The circuit is essential for the proper functioning of the humidifier. Incorrect wiring will disrupt it, breaking down the appliance.

This problem arises either due to incorrect wiring or the wrong splicing of the wires.

Solution:

Unfortunately there isn’t much you can do. We recommend calling customer service to have it replaced.

9. Defective Solenoid Valve

The solenoid valve provides the passage for the flow of water through the humidifier. The valve opens and allows water to flow.

If the solenoid valve is damaged or doesn’t receive enough voltage supply when needed, water will not flow, and the humidifier won’t make water vapor.

You can test the valve with a multimeter. If the voltage from humidistat to solenoid registers the supplied value, but the valve remains shut, there’s a problem with the solenoid.

Solution:

  • You can replace the solenoid valve (Stop the water supply to the valve, and disconnect all electrical connections. Then, replace the faulty solenoid with a new one), but we recommend contacting customer service for this particular problem. It’s usually not worth fixing, and a replacement is a far better option.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why Does my Everlasting Comfort Humidifier Have a Red Light?

The red light on the Everlasting Comfort humidifier means that the system has stopped working because of 6 possible system faults. Low water in the reservoir is the most common reason. Other problems include a dirty atomizer, stuck floater, knob in incorrect position or a wet circuit board that can also cause the red light.

Your Everlasting Comfort humidifier needs water up to just below the activation point for the system to work. When the water level is low, the system won’t work, and no mist will be produced. So, the red light means that your appliance requires a refill (in most cases).

If the water tank is full, the following issues might be causing the red light:

  • Dirty atomizer
  • A missing or stuck floater
  • A quickly turned on unit
  • Extremely high levels of moisture
  • Knob not turned to off position when refilling

If the water levels in the tank are adequate, use the elimination rule to identify which of the above reasons is causing the red light in the humidifier and fix it accordingly.

Why is My Everlasting Comfort Humidifier Not Turning On?

To turn an Everlasting humidifier on, plug it into a power supply. If it doesn’t start, check if the water levels are low and refill it. Next, inspect the floater, switch, and evaporation pad and clean them if dirty. This should turn the appliance on. The humidifier may need to be reset following these repairs and maintenance.

The humidifier needs electricity to operate, so to turn it on, all you should need to do is connect it with a power outlet. In 10 to 15 minutes, the system will warm up and start emitting moisture.

However, if the appliance does not turn on, then there is a problem. Follow the following steps to diagnose the key issue:

  • Humidifiers turn off if the reservoir runs out of water. So, if your appliance is not starting, first check the water level.
  • Next, see if it is properly plugged in. Also, check if other devices are turning on with the same power output.
  • Humidifiers have a float control system that detects water levels. If the level is low, the floater goes beneath the activation level of the system. Due to some error, the floater might not rise to the activation point, as a result the humidifier won’t start. So if the reservoir has enough water, gently move the floater with your hand to make sure it is working.
  • Now try adjusting the activation point and see if the system starts.
